Spider Sabich is honored as an athlete. He came to Colorado in 1962 to race for Bob Beattie at the University of Colorado. He soon established himself as one of the best American ski racers of his time until his untimely death in 1976. He represented the United States at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France finishing 5th in the Slalom. After three World Cup wins, Spider moved on to the Pro Ski Racing circuit. In 1971, he won the World Pro Skiing Championship and defended his title, winning again in 1972.  Spider’s charisma and flamboyant style drew media attention to the sport and promoted the growth of skiing and racing throughout the 1970’s.  (Deceased)
